The Many Variations of Infertility Drug and their Uses

Research shows that one in six couples face difficulties in having a baby. Every single case differs from another, but somehow they all are related as one and that is that they are all experiencing the notion of being infertile. The causes are many but the treatments are almost similar.

In such cases where infertility is confirmed in either the male or the female partner, an infertility drug is given as a form of medication to boost the fertility production. Infertility drug, or sometimes called fertility drug, is a medicine used to increase the chances of conceptions and successful pregnancies. Infertility drug mainly refers to medicines that impersonate or stimulate the production of the hormones necessary for conceiving.

The first in the series is the Human Menopausal Gonadotropin or Menotropin (Pergonal). This drug is an extract from the urine of menopausal women, and contains Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). It basically encourages ovulation by stimulating the ovaries to produce more follicles, and this increases the number of eggs. If it is the male who is infertile, the same medicine is given to increase his testosterone production, which eventually increases his sperm production.

The second one is Clomiphene Citrate.

This is an anti estrogen that acts on the brain to stimulate the release of the gonadotropic hormones or gonadotropin or any one of three glycoprotein hormones produced by the anterior pituitary gland or the placenta. This ovulation inducer is taken by mouth during the early part of the cycle. In men with low sperm counts, it is used to enhance the spermatogenesis.

The third is Human Chorionic Gonadotropin. This infertility drug is a hormone by itself which matures the developing follicles, and activates the release of the egg from the matured follicle. This hormone is also used in men, to enhance the production of sperm.

The fourth is the famous Progesterone, a naturally produced hormone by women. This hormone helps to prepare the lining of the uterus; the endometrium, for the implantation of an embryo, or fertilized egg. This hormone ensures the lining to be strong enough to support the developing fetus, and protects from pregnancy bleeding and so on.

The fifth is Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). Although this hormone is found in some other drugs, you can choose to get it solely under hormone injection. As we know, this hormone is used to stimulate the ovaries to produce more follicles and increase the number of eggs.

The sixth is Urofollitropin or Metrodin. This infertility drug is another hormone which stimulates the follicles, but without luteinising hormone. This drug is basically used in women who have too little FSH and too much LH.
