What is an Infertility Specialist?

Having diagnosed of having infertility, the doctor will give you two options; either to find an infertility specialist or for further medical tests such as laparoscopy and so on and depending on your personal needs and desires, you decide which route is best for you. If the infertility is confirmed, then an infertility specialist is likely the best option for finding out what your condition is.

These infertility specialists are trained reproductive endocrinologists as well. They have undergone extensive medical training and they can accurately diagnose and treat many complex conditions that can cause infertility better than normal physicians. An infertility specialist is known to be a reproductive endocrinologist, an obstetrician or a gynecologist who has completed three additional years of training in reproduction and fertility and has become board-certified through examinations and research projects.

Getting Qualified Advice

At the same time, an infertility specialist also acts as an advisor and a reproductive medicine specialist. That is why the doctors who diagnose the infertility would suggest the infertility specialist immediately, especially if the parties with infertility problems severely need advice. Do not wait to see a specialist if the doctor prescribes a visit.

At an infertility specialist clinic there are many treatments available from initial diagnosis to the most complex procedures; they are available for both the male and female partners. This would include semen analysis, surgery for fibroids, ovaries, tubes and so on. They also have solutions such as medications such as Human Menopausal Gonadotropin or Menotropin (Pergonal), Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) injections, Clomiphene Citrate, Progesterone injection and others.

Besides that, an infertility specialist clinic also offers In vitro fertilization which is a procedure whereby the sperm and embryo are united in the lab. Else than that, an infertility specialist also gives other alternative treatments such as intrauterine insemination, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, surrogacy, tube or fallopian reversal, the use of donor eggs or donor sperm, and options in choosing the gender of the child to ensure that the child will not be genetically predisposed to certain disorders of certain gender in the family chart.

Not stopping there, an infertility specialist also has the duty of the administration of FSH in the patient, cycle monitoring, retrieval, culture and transfer. He also has the duty to administer injectable infertility medications which are tailored to each patient depending on the different causes. Other than that, an infertility specialist sometimes performs surgeries to correct reproductive disorders, such as endometriosis.
